I got to talk long enough with a rep today to get some info ~ I expressed appreciation for maintenance and safety as well as some exasperation of no notice.

I was given some interesting info ~ there's a mix of piping (some put in by abcwua, some by others) and valves (and things having been done to valves by others) that prevents them knowing who will be affected until.they shut off the water and receive calls.

I found that helpful ~ though if someone (city council?) could encourage even a "blanket" text notification that "your service might be affected" that might be a helpful thing.

In the past, the water authority has done door tags announcing this kind of work days in advance. It's one thing if it's an emergency break; but this was obviously planned. Not good!

Good morning Neighbors. Just got off the phone with water authority. Yes our water is temporary really turned off because they're searching for the areas that they're going to need to rehab in the near future. When they know for sure that they will need to shut off our water for the rehab then and only then will they let us know that we will wake up to no water. Sigh.

Hmmmm; I think I'm about to come around to you folks' views about advance notification of water outages! Water is currently out without any notice in my house on Hermosa. I think that's one maybe two or three times I can think of that happening in the 25 years I've been here. Very funny that it's coincident with our conversation. In any case, the water utility authority doesn't have an outage management system like PNM has. PNM's costs millions of dollars, and that's probably something the water authority wants to avoid. That helps keeps our bills lower, too. However... Best, Mark.

Maybe our new city councilor will work with all utilities to ensure that they always notify people of service issues. Montclaire and Marquette are 4 blocks away from my house. I don't ever recall copper-colored water sputtering from my faucets before today. Again, I was concerned about my plumbing.

They were flushing the hydrants at Montclaire and Marquette this afternoon just before the storm hit.  I don't think it's related.

I, too, had copper-colored water sputtering from my faucets earlier this afternoon during the downpour. I hear what Mark says about ABCWUA not alerting customers about water issues but if NM Gas can issue service disruption notices, so can ABCWUA. It's not rocket science. I was the one worried about my plumbing but had no warning that this might happen as a result of gas line work blocks away.

Great observation! I work for PNM and have friends and work associates in IT at the water authority. We've talked about this and they've decided not to do it for the time being because their outages work very differently than electrical outages. They tend to be very short-lived, very localized, and can be dealt with in the worst cases just door to door hangers. And I did notice the air in the line this morning and figured that's what had happened. Best, Mark

I saw quite a bit of water flowing through the gutters on Grand near Aliso yesterday. This morning, lots of air in the lines.

Glad necessary work is getting done ~ and thinking, "PNM does text alerts. Why not ABCWUA?"

Is anyone else having water issues?  I saw the email about the gas lines in the area being checked, did I miss one about a water shutoff for today?  Corner of Amherst & Lead.  And I checked already and the water bill is up to date.  Anyone else or just us?
