Neighbors in the 500 block of Hermosa Dr NE reached out to our association last week asking us to request help from CABQ with a dangerous situation.

Our board worked on this for a couple days and we sent the following to Cmdr Del Greco this morning:

Good morning Ray.

First, huge thanks for the work you are doing at the Hiway House.

Second, I don’t plan to make this a habit but we have a second issue we hope to get your help on at 540 Hermosa Dr NE.

During the late night and early morning of October 28 and 29, for the third time in several months, there was an event at this house into the morning hours that involved gunshots, disturbances by people on the street, and cars cruising and honking. Neighbors called 242-COPS and 911. We’re not aware of an APD response during the action. Numerous shell casings were collected by an APD investigator on the 500 blocks of Hermosa NE and Solano NE the next morning. While we are concerned about late-night noise, we are especially troubled about the gunshots which could easily result in injury or death of innocent people in their homes.

Neighbors have written to the owners listed in the county assessor's records but with no acknowledgement. We ask your advice on what we can do and ask you to address this problem as you can. We would like CABQ to contact the residents and the owners to inform them that they are indeed responsible to protect personal and public safety and they should not encourage dangerous activities. Any sort of contact from the city could help.

We would be grateful to know of your ideas and progress to the extent possible so we can update our community and be good partners. Thank you for your commitment to our safety.

Kind regards,

Seven minutes later Cmdr. Del Greco replied:

Morning Gary, this Is what I am here for we can only provide the best service if we consistently communicate. So this does not bother me one bit. I have received this. The only calls we have at the residence was in July for a domestic dispute. Our Crime Scene Team collected 12 40mm casings and 8 9mm casings from the street and have entered those into NIBIN (a nationwide gun casing fingerprint database). I contacted code enforcement to find out who owns the house so we can begin with enforcement action. Unfortunately, at this time unless we get leads from the NIBIN hits or the house holds another party we won’t be able to submit charges on anyone in the house. The location is on our radar and my staff knows any dispatch to the house will result in zero tolerance enforcement.
