Public Defender Hosts In-Office Warrant Workshop for New Mexicans with Outstanding Warrants

Public defenders in the Albuquerque office are hosting three warrant workshops for New Mexicans with warrants from Bernalillo County. These workshops are an alternative to police roundups and court safe surrender programs. They offer a one-stop shop to resolve or get cases back on track. Walk-in clients will be able to address low-level felonies in non-violent cases. The walk-in workshops take place in December at 505 Marquette NW.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Monday, Dec. 11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 19 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To learn more about the warrant workshop, call (505) 219-2868 or contact Maggie Shepard at: maggie.shepard@lopdnm.us.

Holiday Water Saving Tip from ABCWUA

The holidays usually mean family gatherings, lots of cooking and baking, and plenty of cleaning. You can save water in your home by only running your dishwasher when it's full! There is also usually no need to pre-rinse your dishes; just let your dishwasher do its job and conserve this precious resource. For more ideas on water conservation during the holidays and beyond, visit: www.abcwua.org

Neighborhood Association Meeting Calendar Available Online

The Office of Neighborhood Coordination (ONC) online neighborhood meeting calendar shows which associations are meeting this week at: https://www.cabq.gov/office-of-neighborhood-coordination/neighborhood-association-meetings-calendar. If your neighborhood association or neighborhood coalition would like its meetings included, e-mail the pertinent information to: onc@cabq.gov.

Reminder to Neighborhood Associations and Coalitions:
60-Day Notice for Bylaw Submission to ONC

The City Council voted to update the Neighborhood Association Recognition Ordinance (NARO) in 2022, and neighborhood associations and neighborhood coalitions were given 18 months to update their bylaws and get them filed with the Office of Neighborhood Coordination (ONC). There is a 60-day extension of time for those associations and coalitions who have not yet submitted their bylaws to the ONC. Please note that the extension deadline for bylaws is Friday, January 26, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Associations and coalitions who have not submitted their bylaws to the ONC by that date will become unrecognized until such time as they submit their bylaws to our office. A link to the NARO can be found here. For questions or to receive assistance with your bylaw updates, contact the ONC at: onc@cabq.gov.

Pet of the Week

The Animal Welfare Department is pleased to introduce Squeeks, ID# A1886204. Squeeks is a 1-year-old tan Dachsund mix who is a bit shy with new people but warms up beautifully with a little time. He is great on leash, is dog friendly and loves to chill on your lap as well as give lots of kisses. Squeeks is affectionate, gentle, mellow and easy going, and would be a great family pet. If you would like to get to know Squeeks to see if he could fit into your life, visit him at the Eastside shelter.  To view and/or adopt pets, simply drop by any of the open locations. Anyone wanting to adopt a pet can visit: www.cabq.gov/pets. The Eastside Adoption Center, 8920 Lomas Blvd NE, is open 10:30 to 6 and closed Mondays; and the Westside Adoption Center, 11800 Sunset Gardens SW, is open 10:30 to 6 and closed Mondays.

Alamosa Neighborhood Hosts Officer Appreciation Day

The Alamosa Neighborhood Association hosted an Officer Appreciation Day in November as a way to thank the hard-working men and women of the Southwest Area Command of the Albuquerque Police Department. Officers were treated to breakfast from Mac's La Sierra Restaurant, which was delivered to the Shawn McWethy Substation. The Southwest Area Command serves the Alamosa neighborhood, as well as the other residential areas and neighborhoods on the Southwest Mesa, and handle hundreds of calls each week. The Alamosa Neighborhood appreciates their hard work and efforts in working to keep folks safe. For more information on the Alamosa Neighborhood, contact Jeanette Baca at: jeanettebaca973@gmail.com
