All, I am so disturbed by the recent media reporting about local businesses along the Central corridor. First, I am disturbed because the conditions reported are true. However, here in Nob Hill, we seem to have a little island that is still alive and bustling despite the same challenges as the rest of the Central business corridor. The difference, as I see it, has to do with the efforts of so many small businesses in a concentrated area that are working hard to attract customers from the neighborhoods and beyond and to keep them coming back with good services and products. Unfortunately, our local media doesn’t bother to distinguish Nob Hill from other Central Ave. areas that are experiencing more blight. I wish the reporter from KOAT – TV would have contacted a few more of us – here at Flying Star and our sister Satellite Coffee down the way we are doing quite well. I see many other businesses doing fine which bodes well for the district.

I have attached an article I was asked to write for Albuquerque Business First (a business daily) about what I think of the area. I hope you can read the attachment (Business First does not share content). It’s all about how we see the trajectory of Nob Hill/Central Ave. over a 37 year history. As I say in the article, the future looks good to us.

I am glad the media is revealing the truth about the drugs and vagrancy along Central – as long as their good intentions don’t cause more heartache for already challenged businesses.
