The hotel plan for the former HiWay House site seems like a great thing for our neighborhood.

The parking plans seem quite adequate. And the tiny additional traffic is insignificant compared to the the possible gains from having a viable business in our area and a building that's not a falling-down wreck.

My observation about traffic along Central is that narrowing it to one lane in some places crowds the cars together, so that it's much much more difficult for a pedestrian to find a break in order to cross. We need to bring back a bump-out and painted crosswalks on every corner to promote walking between the sides of the street.

I want small businesses to thrive in Nob Hill and they can only do that if the place looks good and there are many customers. I am fortunate enough to be able to walk to visit those businesses. When I occassionally drive to Central, it really doesn't bother me to cruise around for awhile to find a parking spot. That's one of the the normal characteristics of living in a vibrant city area. If you have a passenger that's not too mobile, drop them off before parking.

What we all ought to be concerned about and work to overcome are the abandoned buildings and unused business spaces and housing spaces in Nob Hill. There are plenty of both.

Thank you to Josh Rogers of Titan Development who has provided this rendering of the planned hotel at the Hiway House site which has been approved by Marriott, who will operate the hotel, and Titan leadership. Titan shared an early version a couple months ago and this final version incorporates community input from that meeting. We appreciate their partnership.  They hope to break ground by the end of the year with construction anticipated to take approximately 24 months.
