Ladies and Gentlemen,
We are writing with respect to your consideration of listing University Heights in the New Mexico Register of Cultural Places on June 6, 2025. The eastern half of the district lies in the boundaries of our neighborhood association.
Other districts in our association boundaries have been listed; 1926 Monte Vista and College View, 1925 Granada Heights, and 1945 Broadmoor Addition. Listing these districts fostered significant awareness of historic character of houses in their boundaries and associated actions to preserve their character; purchase of NM Register plaques, participation in the NM 50% tax credit program, and investment in preservation and renovation of contributing houses. We are optimistic that University Heights will benefit in similar ways if listed.
We are grateful to Steven Moffson for his tireless work in helping the residents of these districts to achieve listing and its many benefits. We thank each of you who serve on this committee for your contribution to the cultural life of our state.
This statement was approved by unanimous vote of our board of directors this date.
Very truly yours,
Gary Eyster, President, Nob Hill Neighborhood Association
