Sounds like somebody has too much time on his hands....
I have known Guy for several years including when he was President of the club. I do not believe he has any direct financial interest in REI purchases by club members. His motivation was honorable and in club members' interests. Dave Williams
It looks like you object to two different issues which I’ll briefly address separately. The first is the matter of advertisement. It’s a shame that you feel that I was conducting advertising The store is closed, and a lot of people may not know that there is a sale on. I myself didn’t know until I went on line to shop. By letting members know about the sale, I am providing information that may be of use to people who participate in outdoor recreation. That makes it an appropriate use of the list serve. The second issue is your apparent objection to consumerism. While I respect, and share, your concern for the environment, your exhortation to not make material purchases borders on the political, and that is something that is not appropriate for this venue.
Please be assured that, as a long time member of the Club, I respect Club, its policies, and its members.
