Fellow Snowgoers,

I'd ordinarily send this report to Sam, but Weather Underground predicts ~12" of snow over the next 4 days, and this report may be of interest to a wider distribution.

Yesterday, Frances and I took our first hike in the Jemez after the saga of the fractured kneecap, back in June. We hiked Coyote Call with the intent of reporting obstacles to Sam. We took 11 photos, but only three of them are of fallen trees that block the trail enough that one might need to remove skis to get over them. Going CCW around the loop, the 1st is ~1/4 mile east of the trailhead, the 2nd ~1 mile east (where the trail begins its ascent toward the saddle, and the 3rd is slightly west of the saddle, on the southern leg (Sam's "most beautiful mile") of the trail. Photos are:

Someone has been working on CC. Sam's most beautiful mile looks almost like a grader has been through most of the trail - it's two-skiers wide most of the way, and is very smooth. There are enough aspen shoots to show that it wasn't a grader. The erosion channel near the CC/Rabbit Ridge intersection looks like it will be easily passable with modest snow.

Happy trails,
Mike Meier
