Amy and James Mathis, here.Tried xc at Cienega. Maybe our ski is were too warm from being in the car during the drive...
Maybe we just needed some wax...
We bailed on Cienega due to sticky snow packing under foot.
Piled back into the car and drove up to 10k parking lot. Found the snow conditions cold (18F air temp at start time around 14:30hrs. ), dry, and definitely not compacted. Found xc tracks broken at 10k lot up to the meadow. We broke trail— and lost familiarity with the unbroken trails— but, made it to Ellis. (Sorry to any other wayward followers who found our deviant tracks...). We trekked Rocky Point following a previous pathfinder. Rocky Point was pretty good, but it’s namesake delivered in several spots. Came back via service road— a few glommy patches, then back down Challenge trail, and over to the Nordic “bunny hill” (steep) downhill left-handed.
Overall, pretty nice up top. A few branches and craggle rocks pop trying to trip you up.

Has anyone skied in the Valley? Is it too wet to ski down here?
...At least in the N14 area. Maybe better on the north facing ski road (Doc Long/Cienega), but no report from there.
Dave
Similar report for low level Sandias - the ground was still too warm. Good snow in many places, but enough spots where it has already melted up from underneath that you'd too often get that rock-scraping sound and feeling.
Dave Gabel
Not enough snow to avoid skiing on rocks. Maybe more coming. The Sandias seem to be getting more snow depth. South 14 is snowpacked & slippery, but plowed & sanded. I live 2 miles from Oak Flat, so reporting conditions at my place.
