Thank you, Sam.  This is one of my fave trails, I enjoy it from the top down, though its a little challenging to locate the beginning without tracks.  Many of us have fond memories of making this trail, and cutting that big log.

This is a good augmentation to those 4 Forest Service maps just sent out.  Thanks, Sam.  Bet

Hello Skiers,

The attached Word document shows the route that Michael Arndt and I skied on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The rectangular spaces on both sides of the Crest Highway are the 10K South and North parking lots.

The tour description is presented in the caption of the map. The elevation change is less than 200 feet. This map is a Google Earth satellite photo on which I drew the approximate route that we skied.

Sam’s/Kerry’s Trail is not marked and is actually a “route”, not an official trail. In Kerry Wood’s trail plan for this part of the Sandia Ranger District, Challenge Trail would be moved over to S/K Trail so that it would not go through the center of the groomed trail area.

The trails in the groomed area have been rolled and are easy to ski.

Remember that on Saturday, we hit some rocks. If you are interested in skiing in this area, wait until there is more snow. Some is forecast for Thursday and Friday of this week.

Sam
