Hello Skiers,
On Wednesday, Jan. 20, Byron Garner, Larry Freedman, and I skied Coyote Call Trail in the Jemez Mountains across NM-4 from Valle Grande. We found about 5 inches of snow that had fallen Tuesday and Tuesday night.
We broke trail over most of this loop and did not see anyone else skiing all day. We found only one tree down on the trail, and we easily stepped over this 8-inch log. We skied up a short distance up Rabbit Ridge Road and cut some branches on a down aspen so that skiers and snowshoers can go around it.
The day was sunny, and we applied MaxiGlide twice after the snow became a little sticky. This trail is on a north facing slope, and only short sections get much direct sun.
At the trailhead in the morning, we chatted briefly with Mike Meier from Los Alamos who was on his way to ski the loop at the east end of the East Fork Trail.
The NMDOT was working on the highway all day, and when we left about 3 pm, the highway was dry.
Photos by Larry are presented in the attached Word document.
