Hi- Today I skied with my hub Steve from the Crest parking lot. Upper service road, Kiwanis Meadow, Gravel Pit, Ellis road, Switchback and Buried Cable to top. We saw Club members, and Jim Whitfield and his Beginner Class! The snow up there was fantastic- just not enough of it! Less than it appears, even in the trees.
Gravel Pit had many exposed large rocks in tight, steep sections. Ellis road was just fine. Switchback is nice but packed, yes some rocks. A really good thing is that I think we might have our base! A couple more snows and it will be sweet!
A note to our many eager new members(!) about a couple of trails.
Survey is a beautiful but very challenging trail for novices, definitely a Level 2! It is narrow/fast, has rock ledges that need to be maneuvered and I hear the trail is hazardous today. Must climb going south.
10K North was not designed for skiing, many rock ledges, certainly Level 2. People ski it when there is a lot of fresh snow. However, there has been good work by our amazing Trails Crew in making sections of new trail, this will help!
I just don't want what could be a fun day turn into an un-fun day! Hey, stick with us- we have a whole lot of enjoyment in a normal year!
