Today Tom and Lynda Katonak joined us for a ski tour on FR 144 in the Jemez. We had not skied there in years, mostly due to snowmobile traffic. We drove out to check it out on Thursday and there was one track made by snowshoers and the snow was light
and fluffy. We skied between 5-6miles setting track the whole way. Conditions were very good and we did not see another human being on our ski. This road is still open to motorized traffic but no one had been in there since the hunting season. It was a
beautiful day and the snow conditions stayed good because we had cloud cover most of the day. The temperature reached 40 but the snow stayed quite good all day. To get to this area you take HWY 4 to LaCueva and turn left on HWY 126. Follow HWY 126 to MM
33. There is room for three cars at the entrance. If there is not room to park, you can go back two tenths of a mile to a pullout that would fit about 8 cars. At the end of our ski, I skied back to that parking area on the embankment. You could also walk
the 2 tenths of a mile with your skis. Louise and Tom Broadbent
