Subject: [NMCCSC] Enchanted Forest 3/6

Hi All!

Yesterday 4 of my family -- one advanced beginner (me) and three early beginners ventured up to the Enchanted Forest to check it out after skiing several times locally this winter. (We live in Santa Fe, moved here this last fall from the SF Bay Area.)  The drive was gorgeous and took about 2 1/2 hours.  Not much snow to be seen on the drive though and we were skeptical about finding the 50-inch base claimed by EF's website.  In fact, I think the base was more like 3 feet but was definitely totally adequate.  We skied the Powderpuff trail (beginner) and part of the March Hare (intermediate) from about 1-4pm in the afternoon. The trails had been nicely groomed but were pretty icy.  The beginners in the party had a tough time staying in control on a few of the hills.  Overall though the terrain is excellent for beginners and if we had had just an inch or two powder on the current base it would have been perfect.  If Taos/Red River gets an unexpected storm in the next couple of weeks I will be sorely tempted to head back up there, but barring that I believe this to have been our last ski outing of 2021...

Did you know that yesterday was a holiday?  It was World Telemark Day and it was the day to “be nice to your tele friends and buy them food.”  We spent the day at Sipapu and had a great time. Conditions were like skiing through a 7-11 slushy with a generous portion of ice.  We didn’t expect too much so just enjoyed what we got to do.  At first I was terrified of falling due to my multiple injuries and I felt frustrated that I felt I had forgotten everything I learned and couldn’t ski very well.  I just had to get my chill on and relax and work with myself and the conditions.  It worked like a charm.  I’d love to go back next year and ski there again in better conditions.  Lots of glade skiing available there!

Oh by the way...Sandia’s last day was yesterday.  They were open a whopping 3 weekends this season.

Cheers,
-Amy
