Hello Skiers,

On Friday, Oct. 22, NMCCSC volunteers will remove fallen trees and cut brush on Ladera Trail on Los Griegos Mountain in the Jemez Mountains. Mike and Frances Meyer from Los Alamos hiked the trail and found a few dozen trees across it. There are also groves of young aspens that we will cut with a power brush cutter. Most of the trees are small, but a few are over 12 inches in diameter. We are working on Friday, because the elk hunts extend from Sat. to Wed. each week.

We will also be nailing blue diamonds to trees so that the trail is easier to follow.

Wear long pants, a long-sleeve shirt, and boots with slip-resistant soles. Bring eye and ear protection (using chain saws and power brush cutter), work gloves, and hard hat. Let me know if you need a hard hat. Also, bring lunch, snacks, drinks, and jacket for cool weather.

Tools will be provided such as compound action loppers and power tools.

We will hike approximately 3 miles round trip with an elevation change of a 600 feet.

Meet at 8 am on the west side of the Target parking lot at I-25-N and Paseo del Norte. There is a very large white tent in or near the parking lot where we usually meet. If the tent covers our usual meeting spot in the parking lot, we will meet across the street from the north end of the tent. I will be driving a blue and white FJ Cruiser.

We will arrive at the large Los Griegos parking lot at 9:30 to 10:00 am. At the latest, we will return to the parking lot by 4 pm and arrive in ABQ by about 6 pm.

If you email me and let me know if you plan to attend, we will look for you at the Target site.
