Take highway 17 north out of Chama.  Cross into Colorado and on through Cumbres Pass.  Starting there and farther north, there are parking areas that the plows clear out at various trailheads.  You’ll need a good map like the Gaia app to pick a trail you want to ski.  The area is heavily used by snowmobiles, but some trails (I don’t know which) are reserved for skiers.

I just started x-country skiing last year, but the Edward Sergeant Wildlife area is a hilly open area near Chama. Cumbers pass is above Chama but I haven't x-country skied there.

Can anyone tell me about the trails around Chama for X-Country skiing? I must admit I haven't skied there. Shame on moi! Where are they & how extensive are the trails? Debbie

The wildlife area on the edge of town has plenty of snow, but it's been around 30 degrees today, so may be getting wet.  Skied Neff Mountain (near Cumbres Pass) and it was awesome.  20 degrees, 8 to 12 inches of new fairly soft stuff on a base of a couple more feet.

Hi, I'm new here and wondered if anyone knew how the Chams Edward Sergeant Wildlife area looked now. I was thinking of going up there on Wednesday. Thanks!
