The website for Spruce Hole is yurtsogood.com , for the others on the west side of the highway (neff mt, flat mt, Trujillo Meadows, Grouse creek) it’s SW Nordic. Maps of the trails to the yurts are online and trails are marked with blue diamonds and reasonably easy to follow unless you’re trying to get there in a storm. Snowmobile tracks can confuse as they do cross and mess up the ski trails.
Spruce hole is my favorite. The parking lot for spruce hole is too small for the snowmobile trailers and snowmobiles aren’t supposed to use that trail (it’s an old road). Note the owners sometimes need to drive a snowmobile up to resupply the yurt. There’s wonderful touring in big meadows beyond the yurt.

I agree, Spruce Hole and Grouse Creek which is on the other side of the highway are the least snowmobile impacted.

the basic etiquette folks hope the snowmobiles follow is to NOT trash the routes to the various yurts up there. I find that Spruce Hole aea is by far the best for this. roughly 9 or 11 miles north of the state border.
Take highway 17 north out of Chama. Cross into Colorado and on through Cumbres Pass. Starting there and farther north, there are parking areas that the plows clear out at various trailheads. You’ll need a good map like the Gaia app to pick a trail you want
to ski. The area is heavily used by snowmobiles, but some trails (I don’t know which) are reserved for skiers.

I just started x-country skiing last year, but the Edward Sergeant Wildlife area is a hilly open area near Chama. Cumbers pass is above Chama but I haven't x-country skied there.
Can anyone tell me about the trails around Chama for X-Country skiing? I must admit I haven't skied there. Shame on moi! Where are they & how extensive are the trails? Debbie
The wildlife area on the edge of town has plenty of snow, but it's been around 30 degrees today, so may be getting wet. Skied Neff Mountain (near Cumbres
Pass) and it was awesome. 20 degrees, 8 to 12 inches of new fairly soft stuff on a base of a couple more feet.

Hi, I'm new here and wondered if anyone knew how the Chams Edward Sergeant Wildlife area looked now. I was thinking of going up there on Wednesday. Thanks!
