Greetings,
After years of planning, permitting, and building, the Emmelyn Hutis the newest addition to the 10th Mountain Division Hut System.
The Emmelyn Hut will welcome its first guests on November 23, 2022, with reservations slated to open on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 8 am.
Reservations will be accepted online (www.huts.org) or by phone at (970) 925-5775. Booking online is usually faster, and phone lines will be extremely busy.
The Emmelyn Hut is a state-of-the-art hut constructed by owner and Leadville resident Cannon Shockley and many skilled contractors, family, and friends. Utilizing timber frame construction, the hut includes the latest energy efficiency, lighting, composting toilets, and stoves.
The Emmelyn Hut is located north of Leadville at 11,150’ in the East Tennessee Creek drainage, between Sangree’s Hut and Ski Cooper. Guests will enjoy expansive views of the Sawatch Range, including Mt. of the Holy Cross, Mt. Massive, and Mt. Elbert. Emmelyn Hut sleeps ten people, and whole-hut reservations are required.
The suggested winter route from the trailhead to the hut is 3.4 miles and has a 1,143’ elevation gain. It is about 2.7 miles to connect to Sangree’s Hut.
The suggested summer route from HWY 24 is 5.2 miles via County Rd. 18 and FS Rd. 102. Mountain biking and hiking are recommended. If using a vehicle, 4WD high clearance is required.
