Hello Skiers,
On Sunday, January 15, Michael Arndt and Sam Beard will lead a Class I (Easiest) ski outing to Redondo Campground (CG) in the Jemez Mountains. Sam will lead a Class I very easy tour through the CG and follow
a 2.5-mile loop trail in the forest around the CG. We usually ski to the highway east of the CG by noon and have lunch. Michael will lead a slightly more difficult and longer tour for more experienced skiers through the forest and around the CG to the lunch
spot.
After lunch, Sam will lead a 1-mile loop Class I+ tour by two hydro-thermal craters on Crater Spur Trail starting at the lunch spot. Skiers, who do not go on this tour, will ski through the CG and back to
the parking lot across the highway from the CG.
Meet at 8 am on the west side of the Target store southeast of the intersection of I-25N and Paseo del Norte.
Bring ski equipment, warm gloves, sun glasses, sun screen, lunch, snacks, drinks, and MaxiGlide. MaxiGlide is applied to the skis to help prevent ice sticking to the bottoms of the skis. Ice forms on the bottoms
of skis when one skis through cold snow and then through warm melting snow. When enough snow and ice builds up on ski bottoms, the skis will not slide.
The current weather forecast for Sunday is a 50% probability of snow, and the high temperature is 37 F. We will want to drive vehicles that can be safely driven on a few inches of snow. Wear a water-repellent
parka. The forecast will probably change before Sunday.
Please call or email me if you have questions.
