Hello Skiers,

On Sunday, February 12, Sam Beard will lead a Class I (Easiest) tour to Redondo Meadows on the west side of the Valles Caldera National Preserve in the Jemez Mountains. Michael Arndt will lead a Class I-II tour to Redondo Meadows and then go north up VC-03  as far as time and snow conditions permit.

We will park in the USFS lot for sledding that is located on the right side of NM-4 before the highway starts up the hill to Redondo Campground. We will walk a short distance to the east and ski Forest Road 379 0.4 mile to the west boundary of the VCNP.  Here we ski road VC02 1.5 mile to the junction of VC02 and VC03 in Redondo Meadows. The elevation change to this junction is 300 feet.

Meet at 8 am on the west side of the Target store parking lot southeast of the intersection of I-25N and Paseo del Norte.

Bring ski equipment, warm gloves, sun glasses, sun screen, lunch, snacks, drinks, and MaxiGlide and wear warm clothes. MaxiGlide is applied to the skis to help prevent ice sticking to the bottom of the skis. Ice forms on the bottoms of skis when one skis through cold snow and then through warm melting snow. When enough snow and ice builds up  on ski bottoms, the skis will not slide.

We will carpool and arrive at the trailhead at about 9:30 am.

Please call or email me if you have questions.
