Hi All,

Again thanks to Tom Broadbent's report, my husband and I, both advanced beginners, headed to the Jemez from Santa Fe around noon.  We first stopped and took a look at the Upper Frijoles Trailhead but were underwhelmed by the amount of snow (though it was certainly skiable it was less than a foot deep) and decided to venture further.  The Valles Caldera hit the spot.  An average of 3ish feet of snow everywhere, with the top inch or two very recent.  It was not powder -- had a bit of a crustiness to it -- but it made for quite good skiing.  We parked at the first visitor center and skiied around La Jara several times and over to South Mountain and played around a little on some gentle slopes -- perfect Class I terrain. We brought maxiglide and after about an hour we started to stick a little and we almost applied it but then somehow conditions changed and we never needed it.  It was a sunny 37 degrees with almost no wind -- the most pleasant conditions I have yet experienced at the Caldera.

I bet it will still be nice this weekend!

Have fun,
