Hello Skiers,

We will be maintaining Corral Canyon Trail in the Jemez Mountains on Saturday, November 4.

The trailhead is about ½ mile west of Valle Grande on the south side of NM-4. From the highway, we will hike up Corral Canyon to Junction Meadow where we will turn to the east, cross Forest Road 280 and continue up to a road on the ridge. Here we turn to the SW and follow the trail around a small mountain to the overlook where we will be able to see the Sandia Mountains.

From the overlook, the trail goes a short distance to the west and then goes to the NE down a long slope on the north side of a ridge. We then turn to the west and SW and go to Tee Intersection. We follow FR-280 to the north to Junction Meadow. From here we may ride in a vehicle to the trailhead if it has been arranged, or we may hike down Calzada Trail to the trailhead.

The hiking distance is 3 miles to 3.5 miles, and the elevation change is 800 feet. We will be cutting trees that have fallen across the trail and pruning branches.

Meet on the west side of the Target store parking lot on the SE side of the intersection of Paseo del Norte and I-25 N at 8 am. Wear sturdy hiking boots with slip-resistant soles, long pants, and a long sleeve shirt. Bring a jacket for the cool temperatures, warm work gloves, a hard hat, eye and ear protection, snacks, lunch, and drinks. We will probably have at least two chain saws. We will be carrying a Pulaski, manual pruning saws, long handle loppers, and maybe a pole saw.

We will be carpooling. If you plan to come from Santa Fe, please let me know. We will meet you at 9:45 to 10 am at the trailhead.

Please email me if you have questions. Let me know if you need to borrow a hard hat.
