We had quite decent conditions at Valles Caldera yesterday. One is able to drive to the Entrance Station only--not all the way back to the Ranger Station. We skied over wind-swept, quite crispy snow to the Ranger Station (but deep enough), then headed south through trees on much softer snow on nice fast tracks. At South Mountain, a few have braved breaking trail, up to one's knees in place, just partway in so far. Mid-afternoon, we heard and saw a few birds, but we understand you'd experience more at another time of day.
