Hello Skiers,

On Sunday, January 21, Michael Arndt and Sam Beard will lead a Class I (Easy) tour to Redondo Meadow on the west side of the Valle Caldera National Preserve in the Jemez Mountains.

The attached Word map shows the parking place, route to the meadow, and routes to two other destinations in this area. The easy tour is from the parking lot on the highway to the meadow. The round trip distance is 4 miles and the elevation change is 312 feet. The round trip distances and elevation changes to the other two possible destinations are given in the caption of the map. Instead of attempting to ski to one of the farther destination, experienced skiers could just ski as far as they wish up the road to one of the other destinations.

The location of the tour will depend on snow conditions in the area. If we do not find enough snow at the Redondo Meadow Trailhead, we will go farther east on NM-4 until we find adequate snow for a Class I tour.

Meet at 8 am on the west side of the Target parking lot at the intersection of I-25N and Paseo Del Norte.

Bring skiing equipment, MaxiGlide to prevent ice forming on the ski bottoms, warm clothes, lunch, snacks, and drinks.

We will park at the plowed area at the community mail boxes, but we must leave room for access to the mail boxes. We will also park across the highway in the partially plowed lot at the buck and pole fence. We will plan to carpool.

Please email me, if you have questions.
