Hello Skiers,

On Sunday, Jan. 28, Michael Arndt and I will lead a Class I-II cross country ski outing to the East Loop of the East Fork Ridge Trail in the Jemez Mountains. We will park at the Los Griegos parking lot, cross the highway and ski up the trail to the north. We will turn right and follow the road up to the saddle between the East Loop and trail to the west. We will then ski clockwise around the loop. We usually have lunch on the south side of the loop overlooking the former pumice mine. We will then continue to the west and follow the ridge to the junction with Mistletoe Canyon Trail. We have three routes that we can follow back to the highway and currently do not know which route we will follow.

The round trip distance is about 3 miles, and the elevation change is a few hundred feet. We will be skiing in powder with several ascents and descents.

This is an outing for experienced skiers only and is not appropriate for beginning skiers and skiers with limited experience.

Meet at 8 am on the west side of the Target parking lot SE of the intersection of Paseo del Norte and I-25N. Dress warmly and bring snacks, lunch, drinks, ski equipment, and MaxiGlide to prevent icing on the ski bottoms. We will car pool.
