On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, we will hold our monthly Los Alamos Mountaineers meeting. This month Rob Suminsby will present "Skiing in Antarctica ".

The Los Alamos Mountaineers meeting will start at the Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road at 6:45 with light refreshments and social time, continue at 7:00 with the business, trip reports, and conclude with Rob's presentation.  Both in person and on-line (Zoom) options are available.  If you want to attend, you must register on the PEEC website. Abstract/Introduction:   How far would you go to find new lines and untracked snow? If you answered, "Eight or nine thousand miles seems reasonable," then step right up: we have an adventure for you! All it takes is three or four commercial flights, a two-and-a-half-day voyage across the infamous Drake Passage, a short Zodiac ride, and a little bit of skinning, and you could be laying down some fresh tracks on the seventh continent. Yes, Virginia, there is ski touring in Antarctica! Join us to hear what it's like to make turns amidst a backdrop of ocean, glaciers, peaks, and penguins.    

Dinner option: We will also be taking the speaker out for dinner before the meeting.
