Hi Dana,
Thanks for your message…
Conditions on Saturday were fantastic, excepting the lack of solid pole placement areas and multiple post holes from snowboarders who had to park at the Crest Lot (only one plowed) and were hiking on the upper trails to get to the Service Road., which, as you said, was not groomed.  This storm took us off guard, and we still have not been able to get our ATVs up top to groom the SR or any of our trails.  We were planning on heading up today and had our ATVs on their trailers when I got the text from the upper lot plowing contractor at 8:15 AM letting me know that he did not get to Ellis and that the upper part of the road was a mess.  So, we aborted the ATV transport and just did some minor maintenance on the equipment here in town.  FYI - I was talking to Mike Donovan, the GM for the Tram, on Saturday and he told me that they did not have their snow cat on the mountain yet and they were expecting it to be delivered this week (they must lease it).  Mike told me that they were planning on continuing to groom the SR with their cat, which is excellent news.  We will also continue to groom the SR.  Regarding when we will be able to get going with our grooming - that will be contingent on 1) the Crest Road being safe to drive with our trailers, 2) the Ellis Lot being plowed, and 3) the snow conditions.  Assuming the road and lots are plowed, we probably will not get going until we have consistently cold temps, as trying to groom in spring-like conditions can actually cause hazards for skiers re. deep ruts that freeze overnight.

We have not yet set our clinic schedule.

Cheers...
Scott

Hi Scott,
Thank you for the update; much appreciated.

I took the tram today (Sunday) with several NMCC Ski Club members. The ski lift was running. It was warm- snow melting off the trees by 11 and through the afternoon. I think it’s going to be quite icy until we get fresh snow.
The service road is getting to be quite a mess from all the people snowshoeing and walking, plus the thawing today. There are deep trail ruts- Probably one person broke trail and everyone else followed, packing down a rut that’s getting quite firm. Makes me appreciate the grooming on the service road so much!
Rocky point was in better condition being down in the trees. I only skied a little section of Klaus between rocky point and the ski area, but the snow seemed better on klaus. It looked like only a few skiers and snowshoers had been on it. Still some powder there.

Well that’s it for now.
Thanks,
Dana

Good morning everyone,

I just had a text exchange with the contractor who plows the upper parking lots for the Ranger District. He informed me the Ellis and 10k lots were not plowed last night, however, he is going to clean up the Ellis lot this evening. I’m not sure if the highway department cleaned up the road last night or not. I have a message out to Eugene, the plow, truck driver, but have not heard back from him yet. If I hear anything, I will let you know. Tram is open, downhill lifts are not running…
