Greetings skiers!!

The annual avalanche rescue review for those who travel in the backcountry will be held Sunday 1/11/2026 from 9 am to around 1-2pm. The location is still to be determined, most likely in the Sandias. You will need to have your own transceiver/beacon, probe, and shovel and be familiar with how to use them.

Statistics show that around 80% of avalanche victims survive if their airway is reached within 10 minutes. This number plunges to around 40% after 15 minutes and becomes worse as time under snow lengthens. It is essential to review and practice avalanche rescue so you can be a dependable team member and are able to react quickly in a stressful emergency situation.

We will cover trailhead checks, aspects of the transceiver signal search, probing, shoveling and practice in a single burial scenario. If time permits, we can practice a multiple burial scenario.
