Hello skiers, we should be having some winter weather soon! See below from our Sandia Nordic friends.
If you’re planning to ski this weekend, please be mindful that we have our beginners’ on-the-snow lesson Saturday.
PLEASE Please Please if skiing Saturday, take the tram, carpool if you must go to Ellis, or park at 10k or the top of the Crest so our new skiers can park at Ellis and keep the group together.

Subject: [Sandia Nordic Ski Club] Fwd: Back in the Storm Track!
Hey Everyone!
Looks like we have a high confidence forecast that 2 storms will be rolling through the Crest area between late afternoon tomorrow and Friday morning! There is a potential that we could get into the double digits in accumulation up top if everything comes together just right. Attached is a forecast from Kerry Jones, a member of FOSM who is a recently retired NOAA/NWS forecaster and self described "weather geek".
We are planning on grooming this Friday and Sunday, weather permitting. And, our Clinical Instructors are giving a thumbs up to keeping the previously announced January 11th Clinic on the books - Please keep your eyes out for an upcoming message from Liz Quinley who will provide additional details on the Clinic.
Looking forward to getting back in the grooming groove and seeing everyone out there on the trails!!
Scott
Here is Kerry's forecast:
Hello, everyone--
Snow potential in the East Mountains continues to look encouraging beginning late afternoon tomorrow into Wednesday night and especially Thursday PM-Friday AM. The first system will bring a nice shot of rain and snow, but it's on the warmer side and will be relatively quick-hitting, with snowfall accumulations generally <3" expected below about 7,000 feet while areas near Sandia Crest could see up to 6" if not a little more. Travel impacts for Wednesday night-Thursday morning should be minor, but you know how that can go.
It's the second system for Thursday evening/night into Friday, which will be much colder, that shows the most promise for widespread significant snowfall. Just today, forecast models have come into very good agreement on tracking the upper-level low from west-central NM to just south of Socorro to east-central NM Thursday night into Friday morning. This is a favorable storm track for snow in the East Mountains, but we don't want it shifting much farther south. Heavy snow favors areas to the north and northeast of the upper-level storm track. It will most certainly feel and look like winter on Friday!

Stay safe,
