Maxine Joyce Valerie Horvath, 91, of Hackensack, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at her home.  Born in Perth Amboy on July 20, 1932, to Vincent Edward Horvath and Mary A. Zaremba Horvath, Maxine resided in Perth Amboy until her move to Hackensack 30 years ago.  She was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School, Class of 1950.  She received her B.S. from The College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State Teacher's College) in 1954 and a M.A. in Business Education from Montclair State College in 1961.

Maxine taught at Woodbury High School from 1954 to 1957 and at the River Dell Regional Schools from 1957 to 1994 where she was employed as an instructor of Business Education and served as Department Chairperson for several years.  She was a life member of the N.E.A. and the N.J.E.A. teacher organizations. Maxine was most recently employed by Realtyline Real Estate in Teaneck.  

She had been active on various committees at the Devonshire Condominium Association where she resided.  Maxine enjoyed photography and travel.  She visited 40 countries.

Maxine was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Gordon Horvath.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Virginia Patrick; her three nieces: Lisa Zalasar, Michele Irving and her husband, Tim, and Karen Nieratka; her nephew, Gordon Horvath, Jr. and his wife, Christine; her two great-nephews, Matt and Scott; her great-niece, Victoria; and her sister-in-law, Margaret Horvath.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863 from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  Funeral Services will be on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Sts. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery, Fords.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Maxine's memory may be made to Bergen County CASA ("Court Appointed Special Advocate"), One Bergen County Plaza, Suite 334, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
