Here’s a three lady banjo special which is spectacular.  At one portion of the piece two ladies (four hands) play one banjo, and near the end, my former student, Tristan Scroggins, steps up and does a spectacular solo. I am proud to say that he is now thousands of times better that I am.   Check it out here:

≈≈≈≈ANNOUNCEMENT #3 Three treats for you at the Gig on second street in Santa Fe

Friends,

We have 3 great shows coming up at GiG in the next 3 weeks and 2 new additions!

February 21st GiG presents the wonderful duo of Randal Bays & Marty Smith!
Randal is one of the bright lights of Celtic music on both fiddle and guitar,
acknowledged on both sides of the Atlantic and Marty is a renown bouzouki/guitar player and fine vocalist! Together they make a joyful (and very accomplished) noise that will ward off any winter doldrums! TICKETS!

"A commanding presence on the fiddle." - The Irish Times
"Bays is a rare beast, a true master of both fiddle and guitar." - Cork Examiner
"His playing has power and passion... simply a joy to listen to." - Dirty Linen

And one of the great purveyors and innovators of the flatpicked guitar and a fine vocalist, Beppe Gambetta will be performing at GiG on Friday, February 27th. One of Italy's great exports and a recognized cultural ambassador, Beppe's playing, songs and stories have reached countless thousands over the past 40 years and somehow he just keeps getting better, deeper and if possible
even funnier. And you know the story, it's always up close and personal with the music at GiG! TICKETS!

Then two days later on Sunday, March 1st, the Kelly Green Quartet will be at GiG! A Steinway Artist, Kelly Green is an award winning, pianist, vocalist, and composer with a vibrant quartet from NYC in tow. Critics call her "one of the most gifted vocalists working today" (Paris-Move) and "one of the most quietly revolutionary vocalists of her generation." (Thierry De Clemensat) Jazz legend Christian McBride describes her as "one of the most talented and spirited people I know." Her music has won her two Global Music Awards for Best Jazz Album and Emerging Artist. In short she and her remarkably gifted band are coming up at GiG and are playing for keeps! Don't miss! TICKETS!

And guess who is going to be at GiG the evening after Richard Smith, the monstrous fingerstyle guitarist plays here. Why it is Tony McManus, the famed master of the Celtic guitar, the guy John Renbourn called "the best Celtic
guitarist in the world" and the guy voted "one of the 50 transcendent guitarists of all time" by Guitar Player Magazine, yes that guy! He will be here on Saturday May 9th! Tickets coming soon.

And the wonderful duo of Sandra Wong and Jon Sousa will be playing at GiG on May 16th. Both rousing and sonorous Sandra (violin & nyckelharpa) and Jon (guitar) have such musical simpatico that something magical always shows up
when they perform! They cover an tremendous amount of musical ground, melding many cultures seamlessly and their prodigious chops make it all look so easy! This will be a very sweet evening of music! Tickets coming soon.

Randal Bays And Marty Smith
Saturday, February 21st- GiG - 7:30
1808 Second Street - 30. - TICKETS!

Randal Bays is well-known on both sides of the Atlantic for his fiery and honest traditional fiddling. He’s especially fond of the Clare/Galway style of fiddling and has spent many a night making music in those musically rich counties. He’s toured and recorded over the years with such great musicians as Martin Hayes, James Keane, Daithí Sproule, James Kelly and many more. In 2021 he received the Irish Artist in America Achievement Award from O’Flaherty Irish Music. Randal lives in the Pacific Northwest and is Artistic Director of Cascadia Irish Music Week. Besides the fiddle, Randal is highly regarded for his fingerstyle guitar playing, including two seminal albums with Irish fiddler Martin Hayes in the early 90s.

Marty Smith, bouzouki and vocals - Marty grew up in rural Wyoming where he got fired up about Irish music from going to music festivals with his family. When he heard the bouzouki he decided that was his passion, although he also plays guitar and several other instruments. Marty is also a fine, strong singer with a large repertoire of traditional songs. He's played many gigs at pubs, festivals, and private venues, and he's taught at music camps and school outreach programs across the Rocky Mountain region. Marty now plays a rare, custom-built instrument, a cross between a guitar and a bouzouki made by famed luthier Nigel Forster.

"Randal Bays is one of Irish music’s most outstanding musicians and composers… If you love Irish traditional music, this is how it should be done!" -  James Kelly"

"The Salmon's Leap" is a pure gem, an essential find for lovers of Irish traditional music and stands proudly with similar albums and artists from Ireland.

AN EVENING WITH BEPPE GAMBETTA

Friday, February 27th - GiG -  7:30
1808 Second Street - 30. - TICKETS!

Beppe Gambetta is a musician and ambassador of art, who, for more than four decades, continues to amaze us with the uniqueness and originality of his projects born on both sides of the Atlantic. He is an acoustic guitarist, songwriter, producer, and educator, and his art is fueled, above all, by the curiosity that springs from encounters, travel, and research. He has brought back forgotten artists, popularized and reinvented folk guitar techniques, produced unforgettable shows and much original music and songs for which he is loved and respected on the international scene.

His latest single "Woody and Pete" released in commemoration of Pete Seeger's birthday, is inspired by a dream: the dream that the energy of the noble souls of the fathers of music who inspired and guided great social changes may somehow manifest and help ease the tribulations and insecurities of today's world. in the song, Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger look down upon today's world and give a cry of solidarity to those who are suffering in the face of our challenges.

Kelly Green Quartet
Sunday, March 1st - GiG - 7:30 -
1808 Second Street - 30. TICKETS!

"Kelly Green does something few artists can — she redraws the contoursof jazz itself." (Paris-Move)

Gather ’round, let me tell you a secret: Steinway Artist Kelly Green
transforms emotional experiences into whimsical jazz worlds. She plays
and sings with the mysterious knowingness of someone who has felt
deeply and returned wiser, now offering musical gifts wrapped in rhythmand rhyme.

A pianist, vocalist, composer, and bandleader, Green leads her ensemble
through theatrically intricate, lyric-driven ballads, high-energy swing, and
heroic instrumental compositions. Her sets weave original works with
reimagined pieces by Mulgrew Miller, Duke Ellington, Blossom Dearie, and more — bridging eras with a distinctive touch.

Critics call her "one of the most gifted vocalists working today" (Paris-
Move) and "one of the most quietly revolutionary vocalists of her generation"
(Thierry De Clemensat). Jazz legend Christian McBride describes her as "one of the most talented and spirited people I know." In 2025, her magnetic performances and undoubtedly-cool band chemistry earned her a Jazz Roads Touring Grant. Green has performed and recorded with Christian McBride, Rich Perry, Steve Wilson, Scott Robinson, George Coleman, and Billy Hart, and has sold out venues including The Kennedy Center, Birdland, and the DC Jazz Festival. Her fifth album, Corner of My Dreams — a surrealist, storybook journey through love, grief, and imagination — was released in August 2025 and won her two Global Music Awards for Best Jazz Album and Emerging Artist. Even in the largest halls, Kelly Green plays as if you’re the only one in theroom.
