Hello Everyone,
On Thursday and Friday, May 20 and 21, FOSM volunteers completed the installation of the steel components of the new metal roof on the Locust site restroom in Oak Flat Reservation Picnic Area.
After Manny Chavez, SRD Maintenance Supervisor, removed the old shingles and felt, FOSM volunteers applied new felt and screwed eight 3-ft by 16-ft steel panels on both sides of the roof. In addition to the
panels, the volunteers installed 7-inch wide drip edges to cover the cut off exposed rafter ends and gable trim pieces on both sides of the roof. The ridge cap was the final piece of the steel components to be installed.
One day this week, Mike Madden and Russell Parker will trowel black Henry plastic roof cement on all the joints between the panels and roof parts such as the ventilation structure and two skylights.
This spring in about 6 weeks FOSM volunteers have installed metal roofs on three restrooms, and in the past 4 years, the volunteers had installed roofs on only three restrooms.
The volunteers who worked on the Locust roof were Russell and Ellie Parker, Mike Madden, Michael Arndt, Lou Romero, Joelle Hertel, Cliff Giles, and Sam Beard,
Photographs and more details of the project are presented in the attached Word document.
