Hello all,
Amazing how much progress has been made clearing corridor for the reroutes in a just a few weeks. A bit more corridor clearing work to do and then we will shift gears and start the earth leveling process which will involve a mixture of heavy equipment such as a skid steer and possibly mini excavator and hand tool work. In some areas, hauling in rock/gravel fill for the low sections will be necessary and again this would involve heavy equip or at least power assisted wheel barrows. This Saturday we will be cutting some brush, clearing out some stumps and small aspens, so hand saws, loppers and picks will be needed if you have them. We will bring up a few picks and Mcleods up from either FOSM or the Sandia Ranger shed for you as well. If additional tools are needed I will let you know later in the week. Again and if anyone needs a hardhat, Sandia Nordic has some more to give away. They’re yours to keep (along with your sweat).
The SRD PPE requirements are always in effect for trail work days. PPE guidelines set by the Forest Service require everyone to wear hardhats, glasses or other protective eyewear, long-sleeved shirts (for cutting and clearing work), long pants, closed toe shoes or boots (not running shoes) and work gloves.
This Saturday, Steve Roholt and I will lead the work group(s) and we will meet at the Ellis Trailhead parking lot at 0830 and working till around noon. Bring plenty of fluids and snacks. We won’t take a formal break so be sure to rest, hydrate and work at your own pace.
Please RSVP to me at jhuser54@comcast.net or text to 505-228-9150 so we know to bring up enough tools.
Regards
Jeff
