FOSM Members/Volunteers

I hope by now you’ve had a chance to read Sam’s report on Wednesday’s work at 9-Mile and Balsam Glade Picnic Areas. I am forwarding an email exchange between Sim Cook and Lou Romero describing their feelings about the day’s accomplishments and in particular the partnering between FOSM and Sandia Ranger District personnel that made it happen. It truly was a day to take pride in being a FOSM member. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Cliff,  I got this superb e-mail from Lou, and I thought that you might somehow in your infinite wisdom share his e-mail with all the members of FOSM of what we accomplished on Wed.  It was pretty amazing what we did with all the team work and working with the FS personal and volunteers they they had assisting Manny Chavez while he drove the skid steer, etc.  It was an incredible day.  Sam said afterwards that he could not believe that we finished up at two sites.  Sim

Sim enjoy the book...I sure did!

Your observations about Wednesday are right on the mark.  Personally, I think the teamwork, collaboration, and creativity we modeled that day sets the highest bar for FOSM that I have seen in my 10 years.  We had seniors out-performing youngsters;  we saw one FS youngster observing seniors and pick up a mall and wedges and joined the manual splitters; we had FS working side by side with FOSM; we had "2 civilian volunteers"; we had 5 Board members...2 FOSM Co-Founders; we had tools we had not tried before; and it all came together without any elaborate planning or bureaucracy; it just happened that way...and we were doing it all for the greater good: Caring for the Land and Serving People, the FS Mission/Motto..

When you get an opportunity, please share your observations with other Board members...we all need to feel good and be proud of what we accomplished that day and we can continue to make improvements as we go forward.

Lou,  I am starting your Breashear book on High Exposure today.  Looks to be a great read.  Amazing crew work with you and Joe Meade's family yesterday. As Sam said, he couldn't believe we got it all done in a day !  Way to go.  That 68 y.o. Craftman spliter is over the top.   Your Father was hooked up.   Best,  Sim
