Visitor Notice of Bike and Foot Race Event on Sandia Ranger District
September 17th-20th
Albuquerque, NM – September 17, 2021 – Sandia Ranger District
– A permitted bike and foot race will occur on September 17, 18, 19 and 20 at the Oak Flat Group Picnic Area located on Oak Flat Road off Hwy 337. Increased traffic in the area can be
expected. The event set-up and registration will begin on Friday with the bike race on Saturday from 7 am to 7pm and the foot race on Sunday from 8am to 12 noon with clean-up of the area Sunday afternoon and Monday.
The Forest Service will complete an inspection of the area on Monday as well. Increased traffic will occur in the area and numerous trails will be
impacted with the increased use during the races. Trails permitted for the event use include, Oak Flat Connector, Easy Pickin', Caida del Pino, Gambel Oak, Pine Loop, Mahogany, and Ponderosa.
For a more enjoyable trail experience while this event is occurring, we encourage visitors to avoid this area and the associated trails and enjoy
the multitude of trails available throughout the district.

September 25, 2021 Sandia Marathon, a Boston Marathon qualifier that starts on Hwy 536.
