On Mon. 12/6 the FOSM trail crew hiked 130 N on almost continual ice and packed snow to remove trees previously reported by Jamey Browning. The first was a 5" at the towers.
Two more trees, which had fallen within the fence
and leaning on it could not be accessed and safely removed. We continued on approximately 1 mi.to the second tree which was a 5" Cork Bark Fir. A bit further on we came to the large Aspen , broken high and still hinged with the top heavily entangled in surrounding
trees - no safe way to get this one. We then returned to Crest house and along the way found more leaners ranging from 3" - 6". A windy lunch at the parking lot and then on to the "hog" tree of the day - a 14" Fir a short hike east of the Crest house. The
remaining target tree was 1500' east of the of the tram and time was running out for the additional hiking required. The plan was quickly revised to remove a "porky pine" on Horse Bypass reported by Dave McCreery - a 10 incher and short hike. A good and productive
day in what is now clearly a winter environment. The crew included Jamey Browing , Jerry Pekarek, Phil Cromer. Rav Nicholson, Dave McCreery and Byron Garner. Photo credits: Jamey Browning and Dave McCreery
