Offices Close on Monday January 17^th
for the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday

National day of service to encourage all Americans to
volunteer to improve their communities

Albuquerque, NM – January 12, 2022. The Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands Supervisor’s Office and all Ranger District offices will close on Monday, January 17^th for the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday.

 

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 17, 2022, is the 27th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. https://www.nationalservice.gov/serve-your-community/mlk-day-service

 

Volunteers are the heartbeat of the Forest Service. The Cibola NF & NGs appreciates all our volunteers in making a significant contribution to the legacy of conservation for future generations. Checkout Past Volunteering Events on the Cibola NF & NGs.

 

The Cibola NF & NGs will waive fees at many day-use recreation sites on Monday, Jan. 17^th. Extra care should be taken when visiting in the winter. Visitors are encouraged to check the status of sites on-line or contact the appropriate ranger district office ahead of time. If you plan to visit over the weekend, check the weather forecast, be prepared for winter weather conditions, and know before you go. For public health and safety, please follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance and comply with state public health orders to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

 

Remaining fee-free days for 2022 are:

·             National Get Outdoors Day: June 11

·             National Public Lands Day: Sept. 24

·             Veterans Day: Nov. 11
