Hello Everyone,
On Wednesday, July 20, FOSM volunteers will begin clearing the corridor for the short reroute of the S. Crest Trail to eliminate a steep rough segment near the north TH of Gravel Pit Trail. We will park at
Ellis TH and maybe drive the equipment vehicle past the red gate to the south end of Switchback Trail so that we do not have to carry chain saws and other tools so far. We will be clearing the corridor 6 feet wide.
Meet at 8 am at the FOSM Guard Station behind the Ranger Station. We will be using chain saws. Wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt, and sturdy boots with slip-resistant soles. Bring a hard hat, eye and ear
protection, work gloves, lunch, snacks, and drinks.
Note to chain sawyers – Recently, I could find only one 24-inch sharp chain in the two chain bags. Please check your packs and vehicles for sharp chains. If we do not find a few, I will have to make some loops
and probably buy some also. We do not have much chain left on the 100-foot reel that I purchased several years ago.
