Hi Everyone,
Looking for a way to beat the heat this weekend??? Want to get a little exercise while hanging out in the shade with a bunch of motivated cross-country ski enthusiasts? Then please come join us for our first Sandia Nordic volunteer trail work day this Saturday, July 23rd! Our work this Saturday will focus on the Klaus Trail North corridor, which, once finished later this summer, will be a fantastic new addition to our trail system that will provide a beautiful route for our beginner to novice skiers. Saturday's work will involve 2 key tasks: using hand tools to do finish work on the rough cut grading that was done this past week with the mini excavator, and removing the multitude of cribbing logs that run parallel to the trail. To get a glimpse of the work that we completed this past week, please check out our new Sandia Nordic YouTube Channel where you will find a couple of short videos on what we were up to. I have also attached a summary of this week's progress below.
Details on this Saturday's event:
- We will meet at the Ellis Parking Lot at 8:30 AM and will will work until 12:30 - 1:00 PM
- Please RSVP to Jeff Huser (jhuser54@comcast.net) if you plan on attending
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required. Please make sure to wear long pants, sturdy shoes/boots, work gloves, eye protection, hard hat, long sleeve shirts recommended. Bring plenty of water and snacks (we will not take a formal lunch break). Sunscreen recommended.
- If you need a hard hat, please let Jeff know when RSVPing. He will provide you with a brand new one that you can keep!
- We are piloting a volunteer hour tracking software package for the Sandia Ranger District. If you are interested in helping with this pilot, please also register for Saturday's event using this link. You can also download a phone app that links to this volunteer software here.
