Hello Everyone,
Several years ago a N. M. Game and Fish warden told us that deer can escape mountains if they see the lions at a distance of 50 feet or more. As a result, FOSM cleared areas around several drinkers out to
50 feet.
One of these drinkers was the Barro Drinker between Doc Long PA and Tree Spring Trailhead. I was there recently, and the vegetation needs to be cut again. Also, there is a more modern rain collector and drinker
that we will be clearing around. We will clear the routes into these sites from the Old Crest Road that is gravel.
Meet at the FOSM Guard Station behind the Ranger Station at 8 am on Wednesday, Sept. 7. We will drive to a gate on a short road leading to the Old Crest Road that is about 1 mile above Doc Long PA. We will
then hike about one-half mile on the good gravel road to the drinker site. We will be using two brush cutters and some of the smaller chain saws.
Wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt, and boots with slip resistant soles. Bring a hard hat, eye and ear protection, snacks, drinks, work gloves, and lunch.
