Hello Everyone:

Today, Monday, March 13, 2023, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew set out to remove two fallen trees from Distract trails. One, a fallen 10 to twelve-inch diameter tree with large rootball down over Acequia Trail near the South Horse By-Pass junction as Reported by Phil Cromer and a 15-inch diameter tree fallen  diagonally over Faulty Trail about a quarter of a mile north of the Sulphur Canyon trial junction. This tree was reported by David Galbraith. Due to the excellent turnout of volunteers (thanks everyone!) it was possible to form two crews. This was good because the subject trees were a fair distance apart and the trail conditions were not ideal for long hikes.  The trails featured areas of ice, mud, packed snow, mud, loose snow, mud and more mud. Both crews started and ended their hikes at the Sulphur Canyon PA parking lot. Crosscut-type saws and other hand tools were used for this work. FYI - The road to the Cienega PA area is closed for the winter.

The crew led by Byron Garner went out for the tree reported on Acequia Trail. After hiking the length of the trail it was discovered that person or persons unknown had already removed that tree and as of this writing, have failed to report this fact. The crew returned via the South Horse By-Pass trail and report that it is clear. The crew led by Bob Lowder removed the tree fallen across Faulty Trail and any branches that protruded into the trail. Sulphur Canyon Trail is clear. Today's volunteer participants as follows;

Acequia Crew - Byron Garner, Jamey Browning, Silke Bletzer, Ken Wilson and John Cooper.

Faulty Crew - Bob Lowder, David McCreery, Rav Nicholson and Jerry Pekarek.

Please see attached Word document for photos and additional narrative.

Thanks,
