– Join the Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands (NF & NGs) in celebrating
National Volunteer Week April 16-22! Did you know? Volunteers with the Cibola NF & NGs contributed over 18,500 hours in 2022. Their work equates to over half a million dollars in service to our National Forest and National Grasslands.
Forest Service volunteers are individuals or groups who donate their time, talent, and resources to support projects in recreation, wildlife, archaeology, conservation education and Congressionally Designated
wilderness areas. Various volunteer efforts have contributed to protection of historic and pre-historic cultural sites, construction of new trails and maintenance of existing trails, protection of wildlife habitat, site interpretation, monitoring, and recreation
site hosts that help with visitor information and land resource restoration. “We depend heavily on the contributions of volunteers to bolster our trails program and strengthen our connections with the community,” said Steve Hattenbach, the Forest Supervisor
of the Cibola NF & NGs
The forest would like to recognize some of our partners that have contributed directly to the ecological, social, and economic wellbeing of our rural, urban, and diverse communities. These partnerships have
enabled the Forest Service to successfully complete its mission while connecting people to their public lands. Some of these partnerships include: Placitas Area Trail Association, Friends of Tijeras Pueblo, Gallup Trails, Backcountry Horsemen, Cibola Trail
Alliance, New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, Friends of the Sandia Mountains, Sandia Nordic Ski Club, the Native Plant Society of New Mexico, Rio Grande Valley Broadband of the Great Old Broads for Wilderness, New Mexico Volunteers for the Outdoors, Albuquerque
Mountain Bike Association, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, National Interscholastic Cycling Association, Albuquerque Wildlife Federation, Middle Rio Grande National Wildlife Turkey Federation, Tri-State Wildlife, New Mexico SiteWatch, Albuquerque Rocky Mountain
Elk Foundation, and Enchanted Quail Forever as well as countless other partners, school groups and individuals.
