Hello Everyone,
On Wed., April 3, FOSM volunteers will be splitting VERY LARGE rounds between the two lower Cienega PA restrooms with sledge hammers and steel wedges. These large rounds are from the 32-inch tree that Canyon Young felled recently. They are too heavy for volunteers
to lift and place on the power splitter. Both Lou Romero and Dan Benton will not be available on Wed. of this week. We will manually split the rounds into two or 4 pieces this week in preparation for power splitting this wood when the Lou's splitter is again
available. To make splitting these large rounds easier, FOSM chain sawyers will score the rounds with chain saws to depths of 2 inches to 4 inches.
We will begin splitting these scored rounds on Wed. with sledge hammers and steel wedges. Please bring 8-pound sledge hammers or splitting mauls and steel wedges, if you have them. FOSM owns several steel wedges and sledge hammers, but having more would be
helpful. We have a total of 40 large rounds to split manually. Sawyers, please plan to operate large chain saws to more easily and quickly score the rounds on Wed.
If Mike Oliver's trailer is available Wed., we will load and haul the wood that has already been split and stacked on the picnic road.
Meet at 8 am at the FOSM Guard Station behind the Sandia Ranger Station.
Wear long pants, long sleeve shirt, and boots with slip-resistant soles. Bring snacks, drinks, lunch, work gloves, hard hat, jacket, and eye and ear protection. We will be using chain saws.
Please email me, if you have questions.
