Hello Everyone:
Yesterday, Monday, June 3, 2024, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew hiked the Kiwanis Meadow re-route trail, a portion of Crest Trail 130 South and Rocky Point trail to remove previously reported fallen/hazard trees and to do other trail maintenance as needed.
In addition to some minor trail maintenance, four trees, ranging in size from five to twenty-three inches in diameter were removed. A crosscut saw and other hand tools were used for this work. It was a beautiful day on the mountain as springtime proceeds and the
foliage appears green and new. As is usual for spring and summer, the Crest trail was fairly busy. About a dozen hikers passed our work sites along with about twenty small children and teachers from the UNM Children's Center. One of the teachers indicated
that the outing was to expose the children to the outdoors and to instill the need to respect and value nature. We answered a few questions about what we were doing and what some of our tools were for. In contrast, I don't recall that we saw anyone else during
our time on Rocky Point.
Please see that attached Word document for photos and additional narrative. All photos by John Cooper and Bob Lowder.
Thanks,
Bob L.
