South Peak Fire Receives Rain:
South Peak Fire Final Update

Reported start date / time:    May 7, 2025, 3:45pm

Cause: Unknown       

Size: 0.1 acres

Location: Sandia Ranger District - East side of Sandia Mountains, East of South Peak

Resources: Type 3 Helicopter, 2 Type 6 USFS Engines

Strategy: Full suppression

Evacuations: NO Evacuations are currently in effect

Values at risk: There are no values currently at risk

Containment: 0%

Fuels: Heavy Timber, Grass and Brush

Fire behavior: Low/minimum fire behavior

Situation: Mountainair NM, May 8, 2025: Fire crews responded yesterday afternoon to the South Peak fire but were unable to locate the smoke as the fire area received precipitation.  It is expected that the rainfall extinguished the fire but crews will continue monitoring the area in the event that the smoke reemerges.  This will be the final update for this fire unless there is a change in the fire situation. 

Smoke may be visible in the surrounding areas of the east mountains. An interactive smoke map at https://fire.airnow.gov/ allows you to zoom into your area to see the latest smoke conditions.

 

Weather: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 63. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 40. North wind around 5 mph becoming south in the evening.

Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon. Sunny through mid-morning, then becoming partly sunny, with a high near 68. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.https://www.weather.gov/
