New Mexico students to promote the nationwide Back Up Your Birth Control Day
on the UNM campus

WHAT: The nationwide Back Up Your Birth Control Day on March 22nd aims to
make emergency contraception (Plan B) more effective by putting it in the
hands of women before a crisis occurs. ACLU-NM UNM Chapter and NARAL
Pro-Choice New Mexico are hosting an education table on the UNM campus to
inform students about emergency contraception and to write letters urging
the FDA to make Plan B accessible over the counter. Health professionals
from the Student Health Center will be available to answer any questions the
students may have about Plan B, which can be obtained on campus. Students
will also be encouraged to fill a prescription and have EC in their medicine
cabinets at home in case it is needed. EC is most effective if taken within
72 hours after unprotected sex or birth control failure.
