The repeal of the death penalty
will be heard in Senate Rules Committee Monday.
Once again it is important to call Senator Ben Altamirano, a key
member of that committee, at his direct number 1.505.986.4733 -- especially
Southwestern Chapter members..
See our weblog at www.aclu-nm.org for updates
on this issue locally.
Parental notification (SB126)
passed committee and is on the way to the
House. This bill requires the notification of a parent -- and a 48-hour
wait after that -- before an unmarried minor could get an abortion. For
news on this bill, see our Legislative Alert #18 on our wonderful weblog at
www.aclu-nm.org; the weblog is at the top of the right column.
Call your legislators at 1.505.986.4300
Teen curfew
was adopted with a "do pass" and is on the way
to Senate Judiciary Committee.
Call Senator Lidio Rainaldi, a key vote we
need to defeat currfew on this committee, at 1.505.986.4310.
We believe if this bill passes, it will be
utlimately defeated in the courts as unconstitutional.
For a brief local history of teen curfew (and
how it was defeated with a court case in Albuquerque), see Legislative Alert
#17 on our wonderful weblog at
www.aclu-nm.org.
