[ACLU-NM] Senate Intelligence Patriot Act Markup Postponed

Quick Patriot Act Update:

 

Last night, Republican Intelligence Committee staff did a briefing with
reporters, pitching the bill as mere codification of existing law
enforcement powers for intelligence (a misrepresentation) and telling
them that the markup today is going to be POSTPONED, due in part to the
filibuster debate. 

 

They apparently told reporters that they are likely to hold a hearing
next Tuesday or some sort of public discussion about the new provisions
but then they would still hold a CLOSED business meeting NEXT THURSDAY
to vote the bill out.  The mark-up has not yet been officially cancelled
but telling reporters it is is about as close as we are going to get.
