> Dear Meredith,
> As we start this third week adjusting to life during the coronavirus, I am encouraged by the tremendous leadership and strength I have seen and heard from so many League members around the country. People and communities are coming together to offer one another support and kindness, demonstrating the best of our humanity, in what is truly one of the most challenging moments our country and the modern world has ever faced.
> I’ve been thinking a lot about the suffragists in their final push for the 19th Amendment. That work was accomplished in the midst of the Spanish Flu pandemic (and with no internet nonetheless). Just as they carried the amendment over the finish line during enormously challenging times, we too will weather this storm and ensure our elections remain free, fair, and protected in 2020.
> This Wednesday, April 1, is Census Day. In these times of uncertainty and physical distancing, standing together is critical. Completing the census (and getting out the count) are two actions we can take to support our communities and participate fully in our democracy during the coronavirus crisis. Share on social media why getting counted is important to you and use the hashtag #2020Census to join in the wider conversation this week.
> Today we published ‘10 Things Elections Officials Can Do to Safeguard our Elections this Spring, Summer, and Fall’, a blog post that Leagues can reference in their outreach to election administrators throughout this election cycle.
> LWVUS is continuing to host several webinars for Leagues during this time. We encourage any interested member to participate and spread the word to League leaders that may benefit from this outreach:
> Advocacy and Communications Webinar (Thursday, April 2 at 4pm ET). The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting everyone's lives, but that doesn't mean that our work stops. Join LWVUS staff for a conversation around recommendations around policy, advocacy, grassroots engagement, and communications during this unprecedented time. Register here.
> The monthly Technology and Communications Webinar (Thursday, April 9 at 4:30pm ET) will cover tools to provide Leagues with guidance that will help you navigate working remotely in these different times. In this session, we will introduce options for hosting virtual meetings, public events, and group work. We'll discuss best practices for doing League work remotely as well as other tips to make your League work the best it can be during this time. We'll hear from each other about what is working in the field and what elements we can help improve. Register here.
> Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Webinar (Thursday, April 16 at 7pm ET). This webinar will focus on gender identity. Register here.
> Please continue to check our main resources link for a running list of guidance and tools created by LWVUS related to the coronavirus crisis to date. Thank you for your commitment to our organization at this challenging time. Working together, we are truly living our mission of ‘Empowering Voters and Defending Democracy’.
