Decades, actually. They got nowhere in the beginning because no one really wanted to know, because they didn't want to rile things up (meaning industry/donors). Huge hurdles there. The part about not having the right analytical tools is accurate, but they do exist. And other states have done this. Need political will.

They've been talking about this for years.  It is unfortunate that they've gotten nowhere and are still bemoaning the lack of software etc. Judy

They did discuss periodic reviews of tax expenditures in a general way. I think we will see that and more. Staff has mentioned it does not have the right software or data base for analysis. It has been studying NCLS, Pew and other States ideas. I would be happy to dig into it further, if desired.

Renny,

Thanks. I am wondering if the Legislature is considering the Tax Expenditure legislature that passed a couple of times and was vetoed. That had a process of reviewing the expenditures on regular basis - a certain number every year. We should keep an eye out for it.

Dick- I watched morning session. Most of these deductions are not industry oriented. Little mechanisms for analyzing those that are. From an accountability standpoint league might be interested in those.
Breaks for food and low income sacred cows. Any follow up you want from me?
